In view of the spike in the number of Covid-19 cases, the Lieutenant Governor Thursday directed divisional administration to impose night curfew from 10 pm to 6 am in the eight districts of Jammu and Kashmir including Srinagar.

Night curfew in Kashmir makes no sense as we know otherwise also the whole Kashmir is shut down after 8 at max. There are no clubs or party places in Kashmir where people can go out to spend the night thus there is no way people can mingle and thus increase the number of covid cases.

It is really weird for a decision like that to be taken in Kashmir considering there is no night life in Kashmir unless it was taken to keep people out of the mosques during the blessed month of Ramadan because that’s the only place where people can gather in Kashmir during the night-time for Taraweeh prayers. What is stranger is that during the day events are promoted and in the night curfew is being announced. It has also been seen that there are massive crowds in those events. So, they cannot have it both ways while promoting gatherings and also promoting night curfews.

It is a stupid decision. Tell me does coronavirus only move at nights and not during the day. This decision has been taken just to show that something is being done against this pandemic. We Kashmiris hardly go about late in the night, we have no night life here. This decision will not have any effect on the number of cases.

Night curfew is nothing special, we have been observing night curfews for the past 30 years. So, it will not slow down the rise of Corona cases. Only positive thing to come out of this decision will be Baraats will arrive earlier at marriage functions. Rest it will make no difference.
