Staff dearth has hit education of students: Locals
Sent proposal to Director Education, issue likely to be resolved soon: CEO Kupwara

Handwara, Apr 04: The recently upgraded Model Higher Secondary School, Kukroosa in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district has just two teachers to teach 108 students. The locals said the dearth of staff at the school has disappointed them and affected the education of enrolled students.

Speaking to Rising Kashmir, the locals of the area said there are only 2 teachers for the 11th and 12th standards and the rest of the posts of the lectures are lying vacant.

Ajaz Ahmad, a local, said the institute was recently upgraded to the 10+2 level. “But seems the government just fulfilled their documentation process as the education of hundreds of students is getting affected due to the dearth of teaching staff here,” he said.

The locals said after their hectic efforts the government approved their long-pending demand and upgraded the school to higher secondary level. They said that residents of the area were hopeful that the school will be given due attention after its up-gradation, “however we were disappointed with the role of concerned authorities.”

There are 65 students enrolled in class 11th and 43 in the 12th standard of the institution. However, it is proving very difficult to manage academics here as school has only two lecturers of Physic and Political Science subjects.

Another local, Towseef Ahmad, said, “What is the purpose of upgrading an institution when the government is unable to provide the requisite facilities.”

Parents of the school students urged higher officials of the education department to provide sufficient staff to the institution so that the education of their children doesn’t suffer.

However, Chief Education Officer Kupwara Abdul Hameed Fani, while talking to Rising Kashmir, said they have framed a comprehensive proposal and submitted it to Director School Education.

“Hopefully the issue will be resolved soon,” he added.
