Amid heavy snowfall, lady in Shopian delivers baby on cot on way to hospital
Mother, baby are stable at SDH Killer: BMO
Shopian, Jan 05: A pregnant lady on way to hospital in Killer area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district delivered baby on a cot due to closure of roads after heavy snowfall.
Family of the lady said that she complained of labor pain and they tried to took her in vehicle but due to accumulation of snow on the roads, they couldn't and while taking her on a cot to the hospital, the woman delivered a baby.
The lady has been identified as Akhter Jan wife of Papa Poswal resident of Zarkan Shalidar.
The family of the lady said that they had to carry her on shoulders for nearly 10 kilometers to reach hospital. The family expressed anguish against authorities for failing to clear the roads.
"It is God’s grace that she is fine as delivering a baby on cot could be dangerous for both mother and baby," the family said.
Meanwhile, another family from Hamam Markoot village of Rafiabad in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district also carried a pregnant lady around 12 kilometers to reach hospital on Monday, where she later delivered a baby.
The family of the lady said they faced lot of hardship in reaching the hospital as none of the vehicles were able to ply due to heavy snowfall and blockade of roads and alleged that the roads in the area were not cleared by authorities.
The civil society members have expressed anger against authorities for failing to clear the roads in Kashmir valley after snowfall, and have demanded immediate clearance of all roads across Kashmir.
Block Medical Officer (BMO) Killer, Shopian told Rising Kashmir that they have received the lady who delivered baby on a cot and said both baby and her mother is stable and are being treated at Sub District Hospital (SDH) Killer.
