Irked by power cuts, Sumbal residents block road
Bandipora, Dec 21 : Irked by long power cuts, residents of Sumbal area of North Kashmir's Bandipora district held protests against the Power Development Department (PDD) and disrupted traffic movement on the Sumbal-Hajin road for hours together.
The protesters alleged that for the past several weeks, the unscheduled and long power cuts in Sumbal and its adjacent areas have been giving tough time to the people.
The locals said that Sumbal, Nesbal, Markundal, Vijpora, Shahgund and many other villages rarely see power in their homes. “Power has become one of the scarcest things in Sonawari villages, with authorities turning a blind eye,” they alleged.
The protesters said that the PDD has not been sticking to the proper schedule in supplying power to the villagers.
They said, “Despite paying proper monthly power tariff, we are not getting adequate power supply.”
The protesters sought the intervention of higher ups. (KNT)
