All geared up for winter season: Admin
Srinagar, Nov 28: As Kashmir prepares for the winter season and the cold, rains and snow that it brings with it, the Jammu and Kashmir administration is claiming to have geared up to deal with all the contingencies that the season brings.
According to the Chief Engineer R&B, Showkat Jeelani, the department is “100 percent” ready for the harsh winters ahead.
"Snow-clearing machines have been deployed, the routes have been finalised, the tenders have been invited and helplines circulated," he claimed.
He said that there are more than 200 snow clearing machines which would be deployed in all districts.
"The deployment of these snow clearing machines means that there would be no shortage of essential supplies to the common masses."
"The establishment of winter control rooms to resolve grievances regarding essential supplies, health services, water and road connectivity is also being carried out," he added.
Additional District Commissioner, Hanief Balkhi said that the administration has met several times under the chairmanship of high-ranking officials to discuss arrangements and preparations regarding the winter season and that the Divisional Commissioner is himself keeping tabs on the preparations.
"The Mechanical division is all geared up. The areas have been identified. Municipality is ready with the dewatering pumps in case of water logging."
He further said that special attention is being given to the health sector and that the focus is on ensuring that the healthcare facilities do not suffer. "We are making all facilities available so that health care doesn't suffer. Heating arrangements are also taken into consideration at various health institutions around the district," he said.
"The Food and Supplies department has enough stocks of ration and kerosene. We are also stocking up on other essentials so that people won't suffer in this cold," he added.
He also said that each department is working in coordination with other departments to handle any issues during the winter season.
