H&ME deptt reconstitutes committee to prevent sexual harassment at workplaces

Srinagar, June 20: Health and Medical Education department on Monday re-constituted a complaint committee meant to prevent sexual harassment at workplace.
 
“In supersession of Government Order No. 818-JK(HME) of 2020 dated 23.10.2020 on the subject and in pursuance of Section 4(1) of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal). Act, 2013, sanction is hereby accorded to the re-constitution of the Complaint Committee, comprising the following to register and enquire into and dispose of the complaints, if any, of sexual harassment against women employee(s) of the Health & Medical Education Department & its Subordinate Offices,” reads an order issued by Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, Principal Secretary to Government, Health & Medical Education Department.
 
Prof Samia Rashid, Principal GMC Srinagar will be the chairperson of the committee.
 
Dr. Shashi Sudan Sharma, Principal, Government Medical College, Jammu, LotikaKhajuria, Controller, Drug & Food Control Organization, J&K will be the members and any other member co-opted by the Chairperson, the order read.
 
The committee has to submit its report on each complaint received by it regarding sexual harassment against women employees of the department, besides filing quarterly /annual reports about the total number of complaints received, enquired by and action taken on the same.
 
In 2013, Government of India passed, Sexual Harassment of Women At Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition & Redressal) Act, 2013 which traces its origin from Vishaka Judgment of Supreme Court delivered in year 1997, which defined the term of Sexual Harassment and also laid down guidelines for working women irrespective of their employment in public sector or private sector.
