Srinagar, Nov 10: Fresh snowfall in the higher reaches of the Kashmir Valley and rains in the plains on Friday have caused significant disruptions. Meteorological officials reported snowfall at key locations, including Razdan Pass, Pir Ki Gali, Zojila Pass, Sinthan Top, Sonamarg, and Gulmarg in north Kashmir.
The sudden weather change led to a notable decrease in the maximum temperature across the valley and the closure of several vital highways. The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed due to mudslides and shooting stones in the Ramban area, with authorities actively working to restore traffic.
Other roads, such as Razdan Top, Zojila, Kishtwar-Anantnag, and Mughal roads, were also closed due to continuous snowfall. Despite the challenges, Meteorological Department officials are optimistic about an improvement in weather conditions later in the day.
The weather forecast for the period from November 11 to the 17 predicts mainly dry conditions and warmer days, offering relief from the current wintry conditions.
In response to the challenging weather, the Kupwara administration issued an advisory, urging residents in vulnerable regions to avoid visiting areas prone to landslides and flash floods until conditions improve.
As a precautionary measure, the Bandipora administration announced the suspension of vehicular traffic on the Gurez Bandipora road until it is cleared by the Border Roads Organization (BRO).
Efforts are underway to address the challenges posed by the snowfall, with beacon officials working diligently to clear the higher reaches roads. A senior official assured that all snow-covered roads would be cleared by 7 pm, facilitating the resumption of normal traffic flow in the region.
