Srinagar, Nov 2: Jammu and Kashmir is set to have its own public policy think-tank on the lines of NITI Aayog, which will be named as State Institution of Transformation (SIT).

The National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog) serves as a think tank of the government, which provides relevant strategic and technical advice on key policy matters.

In this regard, the government Wednesday issued an order where in Director (Coordination) in the department of Health and Medical Education, Dr Yashpal Sharma has been named as the nodal officer.

The Officer, as per the government communiqué, will coordinate with the NITI Aayog and Development and Monitoring Department of J&K and heads of concerned departments, other stakeholders, non-governmental organisations and knowledge partners to chalk out the indicators and activities on "policy matters and other development activities."

A team from the NITI Aayog is visiting J&K Union Territory this month to frame the layout for the State Institution of Transformation, sources confirmed.

“We are coordinating with the experts in NITI Aayog. We are waiting for a team of experts from NITI Aayog to lay out the plan of activities. It will be in different modes like Public Private Partnership (PPP),” Dr Yashpal Sharma told Rising Kashmir.

Dr Sharma said, “We will work with other departments of the J&K government. Presently the Health and Medical Education Department is collating the departmental information to be shared with the NITI Aayog team. Other departments will also do the same.
“Once finalised the Transformation Institution will take its shape,” he added.
