Srinagar, July 29:
In a significant development, the historic Ashoora processions in Srinagar and adjacent districts were conducted smoothly under a tight security cover provided by the police and CRPF. Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, expressed satisfaction with the security arrangements, emphasizing the collaborative effort between the authorities and the public to maintain peace and order during the event.
The Ashoora procession, which commenced from the BotaKadal area and culminated at ImamBaraZadibal, Srinagar, was allowed after a considerable gap, reflecting the changing dynamics in Kashmir. ADGP Kumar praised the people's cooperation, stating that the ultimate credit for the success of security measures goes to them.
"Police is an integral part of society, and we are committed to taking care of our people," ADGP Kumar said, acknowledging the significance of community engagement and support in ensuring safety during such gatherings.
Regarding the Jamia Masjid, Srinagar, ADGP Kumar clarified that regular prayers are being held, and the decision to disallow Eid ulAzha prayers was taken to prevent any law and order disruptions in the area.
To ensure the smooth conduct of the Ashoora processions, the authorities had implemented multi-layered security arrangements, including the use of drones, camera-fitted vehicles, and CCTV surveillance. Stringent measures were put in place all across the routes, major junctions, and hot spots to thwart any untoward incident.
A senior police officer confirmed that no untoward incident was reported anywhere in the Valley during Ashoora. The successful handling of the event showcased the effectiveness of the security measures and the importance of technological advancements in maintaining peace.
Meanwhile, ADGP Kumar, along with other officers, served water to the mourners and paid rich tributes to the Karbala martyrs, fostering a sense of camaraderie and empathy.
The smooth and peaceful conduct of the Ashoora processions marks a significant step forward in the region, demonstrating a changing Kashmir that embraces traditions while ensuring the safety and well-being of its people.
