Folk artists hail LG-admin for reviving local culture

Ganderbal, Nov 3: Folk artists at a cultural festival here in this central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district were all praise for the present dispensation in the Union Territory saying various initiatives are being taken by the Lieutenant Governor-led administration to revive local culture in J&K.
J&K Folk Artists Association, Shah Qalander Folk Theatre, in collaboration with J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages and District Administration Ganderbal on Thursday organized a mega cultural festival at the auditorium of Boys Higher Secondary School Ganderbal.
Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Shyambir, who was the chief guest, inaugurated the cultural festival which celebrates tradition, culture, and heritage. Several live performances were presented by the renowned artists of J&K including Sanam Sajad and Imtiyaz Ahmad.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC complimented the organizers for such a cultural show in the district. He highlighted the importance of the art and culture of Kashmir and assured all possible support to the local artists from the district administration “for preserving and promoting the local art, culture and folk traditions”.
The main attractions of the programme were Kashmiri Chakri by Imtiyaz Ahmad and Party, Ruff dance by Sabreena Mushraq, Dogri dance by Nishu Pandita, Band Pather by Baba Reshi folk Theatre, Gujar dance by Wahida Mugal, besides folk dances and musical performances.
Nukad Natak on ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ and the drama-themed ‘Importance of being Literate’ remained the major highlights of the cultural show. Students from various schools in the district presented performances that were highly appreciated by the audience.
All J&K Folk Artists Association Chairman, Gulzar Ahmad Bhat in his welcome address expressed gratitude to the District Administration for supporting them in organizing the show. He said the present government is keen to support the artists of J&K and various initiatives are being taken by the LG administration in this regard.
Renowned broadcaster and writer Nisar Naseem hailed the DC for taking various initiatives for the revival of local culture. He also highlighted the importance of organizing Jashn-e-Kashmir which he said will provide a platform to the youth artists to showcase their talent. Later, all the participants were felicitated with certificates and mementos.
