Five habitations in Bandipora yet to be electrified

Srinagar, Feb 20: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday informed the Legislative Assembly that five habitations in Bandipora Assembly Constituency are yet to be electrified, even as a major grid expansion plan has been proposed to meet future power demand in the area.Replying to a question by MLA Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, the government said that Bandipora constituency is largely electrified, but some newly developed habitations and pattis that have come up over time remain without electricity.The unelectrified areas identified include Weaven Labkachal in Dooniwari, Moosa Colony in Authwatoo, Reshwari Muqam, Chandaji, and Arin Hapatnar. The government informed the House that Chandaji has already been taken up for electrification during the current financial year.On the issue of grid infrastructure, the government said that a 50 MVA, 132/33 kV Grid Sub-Station at Bandipora was commissioned in 2019-20. It was later upgraded to 100 MVA in 2022-23 with the installation of an additional 50 MVA power transformer.The present recorded peak load of the Bandipora Grid Sub-Station stands at 70 MW. To meet future power demand, the government said a new 310 MVA, 220/132 kV Grid Sub-Station has been planned for Bandipora. The proposal has been submitted to the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) for approval.At the sub-transmission level, the government informed that the creation of a 1×10 MVA Receiving Station at Arin has already been approved under UT CAPEX 2025-26. However, land for the project has not yet been identified, and the matter has been taken up with the District Administration.
