Srinagar, Nov 20: In response to the escalating power crisis and unscheduled curtailments in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), H. Rajesh Prasad, the Principal Secretary of the Power Development Department (PDD), conducted a comprehensive review meeting. The meeting, held today, focused on the Kashmir Valley in anticipation of the harsh winter season.
During the meeting, Principal Secretary Prasad laid strict instructions for the engineers to adhere to the schedule, emphasising a zero-tolerance policy for unscheduled power cuts. It was revealed that a curtailment schedule has been devised based on regional power availability.
He underscored the importance of avoiding power overdraw to maintain budgetary constraints, uphold grid discipline, and prevent unwarranted disruptions.
The meeting highlighted recent strides in infrastructure development, funded through government schemes such as Atmanirbhar Bharat and LPS Rules, clearing long-standing dues of power generators.
However, to sustain viability, Jammu and Kashmir committed to minimizing losses, prompting explicit directives to combat power pilferage through rigorous enforcement measures.
Principal Secretary also expressed concern over revenue stagnation despite increased energy dispatch to the valley this year. To address this, he urged officers to ensure timely billing, swift response to power outages, and minimum downtime for damaged Distribution Transformers (DT).
