Bandipora, Jan 19: Eight years have passed but the government has failed to complete the work on the New Type Primary Healthcare Centre (NTPHC) in Gund-Jahangeer village of Hajin in north Kashmir's Bandipora district.
Locals of the area told Rising Kashmir that the foundation for the NTPHC was set in 2016 with the purpose of providing improved medical services to the people of the area and other surrounding villages.
"Nevertheless, all that has been built is pretty much the four walls of the structure in all these years, and it appears as though the health centre has been neglected by the authorities,” said Showkat Ahmad, a local.
He said the work on the building was halted two years ago. “We are facing a lot of issues with regard to healthcare. People of this village have to travel to Sopore or Baramulla for the treatment of even minor ailments,” he said.
The locals said the government seems to be not interested in concluding the work. “The construction work should be completed as soon as possible so that the local population can heave a sigh of relief,” Shabir Ahmad, another local, said.
The residents of the village said they brought up the matter with the authorities in multiple government-organised events like 'Back to Village', etc but no step has been taken in this regard despite multiple assurances.
Block Medical Officer Hajin, Aijaz Ahmad told Rising Kashmir that the building has not been handed over to them yet. “We have written to authorities regarding it and they have ensured of looking into it,” he said.
