Baramulla, Dec 21: The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), State Disaster Response Force for Kashmir Wednesday said they have been putting every possible effort to fish out the body of a teenage girl, who had jumped into the river Jhelum in Sopore on December 12.
After getting a first-hand account of the search and rescue effort in Sopore, the chief of the State Disaster Response Force Kashmir (SDRF) stated that the agency would use all of its resources to recover the drowned girl’s body.
He said that the SDRF teams involved in the operation have identified many locations between Jamai Bridge and Chankhan Bridge, and searches are being conducted at various locations based on experience and advice.
“It is challenging to locate the body because the water is a bit swifter and deeper close to the bridge. However, I have suggested to my team to buy everything whatever they require,” he stated.
He added that because the area is already a high level flood division and because higher ups have already given their approval, Sopore Town and the Wular Lake will receive SDRF components.
Notably, on Wednesday, the search effort to find the missing girl entered its tenth day.
Earlier the authorities in Sopore banned unwanted assembly of people and clicking of pictures and videos at the search and rescue operation site in Sopore.
A police official said that the assembly of people and clicking pictures and videos by people at the search and rescue operation site is creating a lot of problems for the authorities and has been banned in Sopore.
“People are assembling near the site and clicking pictures and videos for fun. Unprofessional volunteers were also taking part in the rescue operation. So, a blanket ban has been put on such practices from today onwards,” the official said.
He said that a few amateur mobile users were seen trying to sensationalize the issue to gain few likes and views on their videos.
