Jammu, May 26: Miran Sahib’s Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) successfully conducted the Inter Panchayat Anti-Drugs Sports Tournament on Friday.
The event, chaired by Sukhdev Raj Sharma, aimed to engage boys between the ages of 19 and 35 in activities promoting sportsmanship while raising awareness about the hazards of drug addiction.
Rakesh Kakar, the Zonal Physical Education Officer of Miran Sahib, warmly welcomed the esteemed chief guest, senior Congress leader Badrinath Sharma. Kakar took the opportunity to provide an overview of the event and discuss the measures undertaken to foster sports development within the zone.
Participants from various panchayats enthusiastically took part in the tournament, competing in the disciplines of Kabaddi and Volleyball. The chief guest, Badri Nath Sharma, who is also the Sarpanch of Kotli Shah Dola, expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Youth Services and Sports Department in organizing such a significant tournament involving students and non-students from different panchayats. He emphasized the importance of steering clear of drug addiction and urged others to do the same, stating that only the youth can contribute to building a drug-free society.
Sharma further highlighted the positive impact of sports activities in developing sportsmanship among children while protecting them from falling victim to drug addiction and other social vices. He emphasized the need for the government to allocate more resources toward providing sports facilities up to the Panchayat level in Jammu and Kashmir. By promoting activities through sports, education, and drug de-addiction campaigns, the energy of the youth can be channeled in a positive direction.
The chief guest called upon the Jammu and Kashmir administration to improve sporting facilities and infrastructure for the players in the region. Such improvements would enable them to perform exceptionally well in national and international competitions, bringing recognition and pride to Jammu and Kashmir.
During the event, Sharma interacted with the participants, motivating them to give their best performances in their respective sports. The matches were officiated by a panel of department experts, led by Smt. Hardeep Kour, the activity incharge of the PEM Government Girls High School in Simble.

The event garnered support for enhanced sports facilities and infrastructure, showcasing the commitment of the Jammu and Kashmir administration to nurture the potential of its athletes and bring laurels to the region.
