Jammu, Nov 24: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Samba district claimed on Thursday that they have recovered a consignment of weapons and cash allegedly dropped by a Pakistani drone from a field in Vijaypur area.
SSP Samba, Dr. Abhishek Mahajan told reporters that at around 6:25 am on Thursday, locals informed Vijaypur police that they had spotted a suspected bag lying in a field near ChhaniManhasan in Samba.
Accordingly the police, their team reached the spot, verified the information and called in the bomb disposal squad for their help.
“When the bag was opened, Rs. 5 lakh cash, two pistols with 4 magazines and 7 rounds, one IED, one battery, and a detonator was found inside by the police,” he said.
The police officer said that soon after the recovery, a search operation was also launched in and around the recovery site but nothing incriminating was found.
The SSP Samba thanked locals for assisting the police in the recovery of the arms and cash.
“It was only due to the efforts of the locals that police was able to foil a major terror plot in Samba district. I thank the people of Samba for their support,” he said.
Asked whether the bag was dropped using a drone, the SSP Samba said, “Yes, since the package was tied with a cord”.
Samba police have registered a case under relevant sections of the law and taken up further investigation.
