Srinagar, June 19: Jammu and Kashmir Cyber Police have appealed to the public not to respond to any of the fake messages like, ‘the power supply will be cut off at 9.30 pm tonight due to the non-update of last month’s electricity bill.  They said people should not fall prey to these frauds.
According to cyber police, a fake link is being sent to the consumer's mobile number to pay the electricity bill via online transaction.
They said customers are also being asked to download applications to pay their electricity bills. If customers respond, there is a high chance that the computer system along with the account balance in the bank account will be hacked.
Officials said, "Consumers should completely ignore such fake messages and links.”By sending fake SMS on a personal mobile number, as well as asking to open a link, forms attached in the SMS regarding the electricity bill will lead to financial fraud.
As per the PDD Department, their employees never collect the details of bank accounts, debit cards or credit cards, except the payment receipt bill and the company cannot send any website links through SMS for payment of bills.
Cyber Police have appealed to the people to follow these directions to avoid getting duped by scammers.
Do not respond to messages received from unknown sources. Do not dial the number mentioned in the text message.
Do not download any app. ‘Do not make a transaction even if it is of a small amount like Rs 10 or 11. “Do not share any passcode generated on your phone.
