Dir Horticulture tours IGC Lassipora

Inspects post-harvest units, visits orchards

Srinagar, Mar 09: Director Horticulture Kashmir Aijaz Ahmad Bhat on Tuesday visited the IGC Lassipora in Pulwama district to inspect various post-harvest units and CA stores.

The Director was accompanied by Deputy Director Horticulture, Chief Horticulture Officer, Pulwama, Chief Canning and Processing Instructor and other senior officers.  During the visit, he took stock of the functioning of these units.

During the interaction with the stakeholders, Director Horticulture advised the unit holders to help the orchardists by providing excellent services and charging reasonable rates.

He also inspected various developmental works including pack houses, vermicomposting units, and tube and bore wells. He also took a review of the high-density plantation programme in the district. Progress of developmental works including raising and planting of budded and grafted rootstock was also reviewed and instructions were issued to grow the rootstock as per SOPs and develop the nurseries on modern lines.

Emphasis was laid on the propagation of quality planting material and introduction of new high yielding varieties of different cultivators. The Director also passed instructions to hold awareness camps for providing technical knowhow to growers on different aspects of fruit growers.

Instructions were also given regarding spraying of HMO and pesticides, which he directed should be done strictly as per the recommendations and advisories of SKUAST Kashmir and the Department of Horticulture.

Later, the Director visited orchards affected by porcupine infestation and issued necessary instructions to the Chief Horticulture Officer and concerned field staff for preventive measures to tackle the menace.
