Dir Horticulture reviews field activities in Budgam

Srinagar, April 14: Director Horticulture, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, today made an extensive tour of District Budgam to review the field activities of Horticulture Department  so as to have a firsthand feedback.

At Gopalpora, the Director inspected the fruit plant Nursery of the Department where around 50000 clonal Apple rootstock have been planted this year for establishment of a mother  bank and further multiplication   of root stock to overcome the limited availability of elite plant material.

The nursery have  been maintained nicely on scientific lines. Director Horticulture appreciated the afforts of Horticulture Development Officer and recognizing his dedication, he was awarded with cash prize.

On the occasion field staff of Budgam and members of Non-Gazetted Horticulture employees Union were present.

Beside Director Horticulture   later in the day inaugurated two custom hiring centers in village Dooniwar and Kremshore established under scheme “SMAM”.

   Director Horticulture lauded the keenness of SMG members in establishment of these centres  which primarily provides the services of orchardists by way of providing machinery on rent.

The CHO provides livelihood to un-employed youth. Director Horticulture was apprised that a total of six centres have been established in the District.

Director instructed authorities to explore the possibility of establishing maximum No. of such centres during current year. All the staff was enjoined upon to work in a missionary mode to the expectations of orchardists.
