Srinagar, May 20: As part of security preparations for the G20 Summit, the CRPF's Water Wing and Quick Action Team (QAT) conducted a joint simulated practise on the waters of Dal Lake on Saturday. Marine Commandos (MORCOS) and the CRPF performed similar training, according to authorities.
According to a senior CRPF officer, the Water Wing and Quick Action Team (QAT) of the CRPF conducted a dominance practise on the waters of Dal Lake on Saturday as part of an exercise to check the security preparedness of the troops
“We are ready to meet any challenge and that CRPF along with other agencies will thwart ill designs of anti-national elements in the region,” he said.
The G20 summit in Kashmir will be held at Sheri Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) on the banks of Dal Lake. Tourism players in Kashmir believe that the G20 meeting can attract investors and tourists from across the globe.
A police officer said that all security arrangements have been finalized regarding the G20 Summit and forces are on alert and ensure an incident-free event in the Valley.
“Tight security arrangements have been put in place around the venues including SKICC for peaceful events and there are multiple checkpoints in Srinagar to thwart any attacks,” he said.
The officer said both police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have intensified patrolling, vehicle checking, and frisking at various flashpoints in Srinagar and other vital highways in the region.
The new security plan has already been framed and accordingly the deployment would remain in place for smooth conduct of the function across Kashmir.
“Drones and camera-fitted vehicles and CCTV would be used to monitor the overall situation during the G20 Summit and both human and technical means will be used to ensure incident-free event in the Valley. SOG’s in civvies will be deployed around the vital points to keep an eye on suspicious persons,” he said.
The third G20 tourism working group meeting under India’s presidency will be held in the Kashmir Valley between May 22 and 24. While deliberations during the three-day event will be held in Srinagar.
On the sidelines of the event, a major event will also be held to highlight film tourism, which the UT administration has been promoting in a big way in the last few years.
