Srinagar, Mar 16: With an aim to enhance civic connect in Kashmir, the CRPF is training its jawans about local dialect and language so that they communicate effectively, a top official of CRPF on Thursday said.
Inspector General CRPF (Kashmir Operations) M.S. Bhatia told Rising Kashmir that it is important that our Jawans who interact with the public know the basic dialect and local language so that they can communicate effectively.
He said CRPF's endeavor is to sort of teach them that much which can ensure effective communication in local dialect and language wherever they are posted.
“CRPF men are being trained in the use of Kashmiri words that are used in daily affairs. We also train them how to greet people, exchange pleasantries, and how to apologise, so that it will reduce the gap between forces and people," IG CRPF Bhatia said.
He said Hindi and Urdu are something most Kashmiris understand, communication in that respect is not an issue. “We are teaching our Jawans how to greet people in their local language and how to talk in a polite way; those kinds of soft skills are inculcated to Jawans," he said.
IG CRPF Bhatia said recently a quick first aid and CPR was given by a CRPF jawan to a government employee on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and saved the precious life.
"Such things are also being trained by our CRPF men to reach out to the local population," he said.
Regarding deployment of  more women battalions in Kashmir, IG CRPF said that  there has been deployment of Mahila Battalions in Srinagar and so that it is used in law and order situations.
"Depending on the sort of need, it may be increased later, but right now whatever we have is sufficient. During the Amarnath Yatra, we call for more Mahila components because that is put on for good use during the Yatra," he said, adding,  whenever such a situation arises, CRPF will try to increase it depending on the situation.
Apart from this, IG CRPF Bhatia said that CRPF is also involved in civic action programs in Kashmir to win the trust of the people. “We have a Madadgar helpline through which we provide help to the needy and distressed and a lot of good work has happened in the past also and it will also continue,” he said.
"We keep organizing sports events, medical camps and exposure tours to students to integrate youth to the mainstream," IG CRPF said.
"Youth participation in sports activities in large numbers is a sign of normalcy and progress in J & K. I appeal to the youth of J&K to make themselves busy in sports activities, cultural events, engage in mainstream etc and make their future bright," he said.
