Cluster University Srinagar celebrates R-Day

Srinagar, Jan 27: Cluster University Srinagar on Thursday celebrated the 74th Republic Day with Vice Chancellor, Prof. Qayyum Husain unfurling the national flag and accepting the guard of honour presented by NCC cadets and students at the varsity’s Gogji Bagh campus against the backdrop of the national anthem.
Those who attended the ceremony included Dean Academic Affairs, Incharge Registrar and Controller of Examinations, Principals of constituent and affiliated colleges, Deans of various faculties, Dean Students Welfare, Sports Secretary, Coordinators of IG pogrammes and Conveners of various committees besides the administrative staff of the university.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor spoke about the significance of the day.
“The Constitution lays down its ideals in the Preamble itself which declares India as a sovereign, socialist, secular and democratic republic. The preamble secures civic, political and economic equality of status and opportunity to all citizens. The Indian Constitution embodies the concept of secularism and equality with adequate opportunities for all individuals without any discrimination,” Prof. Qayyum said.
“We should rise above the barriers of caste, creed, colour and religion to work together for nation building,” he said, reiterating the commitment of Cluster University to uphold the core values enshrined in the Constitution.
Earlier in his opening address, Incharge Registrar, Dr. Khurshid A. Mir listed the series of initiatives and achievements of the country in the recent past, transforming all fields of life including higher education.
He specifically mentioned the important role India has assumed with the Presidency of the G20, adding that it will further enhance the country’s efforts to build a more equitable and sustainable world order. Dr. Khurshid also shared the G-20 Presidency themes which Cluster University will highlight through various activities.
Cultural Secretary and Dean Humanities, Dr. Deeba Sarmad presented Vote of Thanks on the occasion. Pertinently, the constituent colleges of the university viz., Govt. College for Women; Amar Singh College; S.P. College; Abdul Ahad Azad Memorial Degree College and Institute of Advanced Studies In Education- also celebrated Republic Day with flag hoisting ceremonies led by respective principals.
