Business community has high hopes from new CS Arun Mehta: KCCI

KCCI also wished Mehta’s predecessor BVR Subrahmanyam well for his new assignment in the Commerce Ministry at the centre.

Srinagar, May 28: Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Friday welcomed the appointment of Arun Kumar Mehta as new Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir while expressing hope that he will initiate measures to revive economy of the union territory.  

KCCI also wished Mehta’s predecessor BVR Subrahmanyam well for his new assignment in the Commerce Ministry at the centre.

“Appointment of Arun Mehta as new CS has come at a time when the J&K is going through successive lockdowns. We have high expectations in his administrative capabilities and hope he will bailout Kashmir out of the economic crisis,” KCCI president Sheikh Ashiq Ahmad and general- secretary Farooq Amin said in a statement.

 

Mehta has more than three decades of experience in bureaucracy with key positions in J&K and Centre. As such KCCI has pinned high hopes from his administrative acumen and experience, the statement said.

 

Previously he has held key positions in J&K as DC Baramulla, power secretary of Jammu and Kashmir before proceeding onto his central deputations. “His tenure in Kashmir is remembered for his several initiatives like fast track development process and bringing accountability and transparency in the governance,” it added.

 

Further, KCCI has expressed joy and hope at the appointment of BVR Subrahmanyam in the Union Commerce Ministry. “We have high hopes with the outgoing Chief Secretary as he will represent Kashmir at the centre and is fully aware of the economic situation of the union territory.”
