Srinagar, April 22: An unidentified boy reportedly jumped into the River Jhelum near Budshah Bridge in the Lal Chowk area of Srinagar on Wednesday evening, officials said.
According to officials, the incident occurred late in the evening when the boy entered the river from the bridge. His identity has not yet been established.
Soon after the incident was reported, teams from Jammu and Kashmir Police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and River Police reached the spot and launched a coordinated rescue operation. Search efforts were underway in the river till the last reports came in.
Authorities have not issued any further details regarding the circumstances leading to the incident. An investigation has been initiated.
Jhelum River flows through the area, and rescue teams are continuing efforts in challenging conditions.
