Jammu, May 18: Provincial President National Conference Jammu Rattan Lal Gupta on Thursday accused the BJP government at the Centre of not fulfilling the promises it had made to people in the run-up to the previous election.
The NC leader said this while addressing a workers' meeting in Hiranagar on Thursday, a party statement issued here said, adding that the meeting was presided by Sham Narian Mehta District President Kathua Rural.
Lal raised the “burning issues” of border dwellers living along the IB and LoC, saying, “Starting from Lakhanpur to Uri in the extreme north of the state, the people residing in border and Kandi belts are facing numerous problems but the BJP dispensation at the Centre and its proxy administration in J&K are doing nothing except rhetoric and showing dreams to the people with more and more promises made every day as if those sitting at the helm will provide moon and stars to the people.”
Gupta added, “People are lurching for basic amenities while the promises made regarding border battalions, 5 marla plots to border dwellers have turned out to be all lies. The people of J&K have now understood well that BJP leadership has expertise in befooling the public and telling lies, therefore it is the time for one and all in the UT to extend wholehearted support to NC leadership in the upcoming political contests viz Assembly polls, etc to bail out people from the morass created by BJP government at the Centre.”
The senior NC leader said that farmers in J&K are also confronting a number of problems, especially in the Hiranagar belt due to new land laws enacted without consulting any of the stakeholders. “The BJP government is running an authoritative dispensation in J&K with citizen rights under siege as the common man is ignored on all fronts,” he said.
“The summer has just begun and already the people are facing a dearth of potable water and electricity with no answers coming from the people sitting at the helm and despite out-of-proportion hikes in bills. The healthcare edifice is also in shambles with the shortage of medicos in each healthcare facility without any exception, showing indifference of those manning these institutions,” Gupta said, adding that people should make up their mind to oust the incompetent dispensation both from J&K and the Centre and give a chance to NC to once again steer J&K and fulfill the aspirations of the people as it did in the past.
