Srinagar, Oct 10: The first-ever bird-watching festival in Overa Wild Life Sanctuary on Saturday continued for the second consecutive day.
Bird lovers from various parts of the country actively participated in the event launched by the tourism department.
Divulging the details, an official of the tourism department told Rising Kashmir, "The birding walk started at 7:00 AM in the morning at the Overa Wildlife Sanctuary. Around 60 people, including bird experts from the Bombay National History Society, Sanctuary Nature Foundation, Department of Wildlife Protection, and Green Volunteers actively participated in the event.
The officer said, "The trip lasted for two hours in the field and around 14 species of birds were spotted. Some of them include the Spotted forktail, Russet sparrow, Himalayan bluetail, and Himalayan woodpecker. "
Later, the festival attendees visited the Pahalgam Golf Course, where experts from the Bombay National History Society and Sanctuary Nature Foundation gave insightful talks on bird ringing and wildlife photography. These sessions were followed by an interactive discussion between the experts and other festival attendees.
The first-ever bird-watching festival in Pahalgam was inaugurated by Sarmad Hafeez, Secretary of Tourism.
The J&K Bird Festival, 2022, is the first of its kind to link local biodiversity with citizens by organizing activities like runs for birds, nature photography, capacity building, painting, photo galleries, and workshops.
