Department of Biotechnology, BGSBU organized two days symposium on, ‘Molecular advances in understanding neurodevelopmental disorders: From lab to clinic’.

Prof. Akbar Masood Vice Chancellor Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University congratulated the department for organizing the symposium.

Prof. Akbar said that Neurogenetics stands at the center of some of the most exciting translational clinical and basic research in neurology and human genetics.

He urged the participants to explore the advances to be made in molecular biology, genetics and a desire to understand the link between genes, behavior, the brain, and neurological disorders and diseases which will help the mankind in long run.

Dean Academic Affairs Prof Iqbal Parwez lauded the efforts of the organising team.

Prof. Iqbal appreciated the contribution of faculty members of the department for contributing in cutting edge research in biotechnology.

The theme of symposium was divided into 6 sub-themes. Dr. Aurnab Ghose, Senior Scientist, IISER Pune delivered the keynote lecture on ‘Role of cytoskeleton in neurodegenerative disorders’.

Plenary talk was delivered by Dr. Bhavana Murlidharan on ‘Chromatin regulation of nervous system development in health and disease’.  Dr. Ashwin Dalal, Group Leader CDFD, Hyderabad, spoke on ‘Neurodevelopmental disorders in the era of next generation sequencing’. Dr. Dr. Dineshani Hettiarachchi, Faculty at University of Colombo, Sri-Lanka addresses the ‘Role of genomics in rare disorders’.

Other topics addressed included ‘Role of autophagy in neurodevelopmental disorders’ and ‘Protein modelling in neurodevelopmental disorders’.

Dr. A.A Shah, Associate Dene, School of Biosciences & Biotechnology, BGSBU in his inaugural address highlighted the importance of cutting edge molecular and genetic research in solving the complex problem of neurobiology.

Dr. Tanvir-ul-Hassan, Coordinator, Department of Biotechnology introduced the speakers. Dr. Raja Amir Hassan, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology convened the symposium and conducted the proceedings.

Dr. Saima Aslam, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology proposed the vote of thanks. Symposium was attend by 120 participants including Ph.D students, faculty members, PG students and Post-Doctoral fellows.
