Srinagar, May 22: The ongoing G20 Tourism Working Group meeting at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Conference Center (SKICC) turned the global spotlight towards North Kashmir’s Bandipora district, as its exceptional products captivate the delegates from 20 countries.
Amidst the discussions on tourism and cultural exchange, the delegates were introduced to the unique treasures of Bandipora.
Among the showcased products, Black Cumin, locally known as Kala Zera, gained attention for its aromatic properties, herbal benefits, and medicinal value. Cultivated in the picturesque Gurez Valley, this distinct variety of cumin has garnered recognition for its quality and unique characteristics.
Organic Rajma (Kidney Beans) sourced from Tulail Valley was also showcased, impressing participants with its exceptional flavour and aroma. The organic farming practices employed in the region have contributed to the superior quality of these beans, making them highly sought after nationwide.
Adding a touch of artistic elegance, exquisite paper mache art pieces from Sumbal Sub Division of district were on display. These intricately crafted artworks highlight the rich cultural heritage of the district and have captivated the attention of the delegates.
Shreen Shafi, the District Programme Manager of Bandipora, while expressing her enthusiasm for the platform the G20 summit has provided to the Self-Help Groups registered at the JK Rural Livelihood Mission told Rising Kashmir that the event has given these groups an opportunity to showcase their products and expand their reach to a global audience.
Overcoming geographical challenges, these groups have established a strong presence by collecting wild black zeera, a decision that has proven fruitful due to its high demand and medicinal properties, she said.
Shreen said that the G20 summit has not only highlighted exceptional offerings of Bandipora but has also provided a platform to celebrate the district’s cultural heritage and economic potential. The delegates have shown great interest in exploring more opportunities for collaboration and partnership, recognizing the value of products of Bandipora on the global stage, she said.
