Jammu, May 17: Apni Party State General Secretary Vijay Bakaya has expressed anguish at the government’s decision to charge electricity tariff from the Kashmiri Pandits living in migrant camps.
In a statement, Bakaya reminded the government that these displaced people have been living in these camps for the last 32 years. “Unlike many others, they are not in a position to build their own houses because they are not financially well off to do so. They are those who subsist on relief of Rs 13,000 for a family of four and a free ration. Therefore, it would be a great burden on their limited income and would affect their day-to-day lives,” he said.
He appealed to the government to reconsider the decision which has remained in force ever since these people have been displaced. He pointed out that their camps are not being properly maintained and they suffer other inconveniences like irregular water supply and cleanliness.
“The government should now consider making the migrants in these camps owners of the flats in which they are living so that all consequential rights can accrue to them,” he added.
Bakaya urged the government to not implement the order of charging electricity tariffs for migrants living in camps.
