Awareness programme on ‘Women Centric Schemes & Legal Services’ held at S.P College

Srinagar, May 27: SPARSH Committee and Women Development Cell of S. P. College in collaboration with the District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Mission Shakti today organised an Awareness programme regarding “Women Centric Schemes and Legal Services” to generate awareness amongst the female students of the college about the various schemes and campaigns focused on women and their rights.
The Speakers for the occasion were Rehana Qadir, Deeba (Gender Specialists) and Zainab (Para Legal Personnel).
Dr. Nikhat Nabi introduced the programme and also briefed the audience about the SPARSH committee in the college. She also laid stress on creating a campus free of gender bias.
The formal welcome address was delivered by the Principal of SP College, Prof (Dr) Ghulam Jeelani Qureshi who encouraged the students to be educated and empowered. He also appreciated the fact that the ratio of girl students in the college has increased due to various initiatives taken by the government.
He also laid emphasis on the students to make the best out of this interactive session and gain as much knowledge as possible from the information shared by the revered speakers.
Rehana Qadir, Gender Specialist discussed various beneficial schemes like empowerment schemes, skill schemes and legal schemes adopted to bring equality at every level, empower women and uplift girl education.
Deeba, Gender Specialist also reiterated various schemes to empower women economically and provide them counseling, legal assistance, temporary shelter and financial relief to victims of domestic violence and harassment. She also gave a brief overview of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme.
Zainab, Para Legal Personnel focused on the legal services provided for the safety, security and empowerment of the women. She also talked about the campaign Nasha Mukht Bharat Abhiyan that was raised to sensitize youth about the various aspects of drug abuse, its prevention and rehabilitation.
The programme was conducted by Dr. Shabana Aslam, Assistant Professor and coordinated by Dr. Nikhat Nabi (Chairperson, SPARSH) and Dr. Sameera Siraj (Convenor, Women Development Cell).
