Whenever there is a danger, we fear; this fear could be wiped out either by eliminating the danger or by erasing the fear from our psychology
Around six months ago, most of the people had no idea what Covid-19 is. Remembering the first time I heard about the disease, it didn’t looked like a big deal as it was confined to China. But the day when Covid-19 was announced as a pandemic, fear started to creep in slow.
Some people were hyper sensitive and were spotted wearing masks at a time when government was discarding it as unnecessary precaution. I remember my friends being mocked at school for that. Then came the day when we were introduced to the word ‘lockdown’. It wasn’t the word itself that made us feel the need of masks but the uncertainty which escorted it. We felt the need of sanitizers, social distancing and fear.
Covid-19 catastrophe wasn’t new for the world. We have a long history of facing pandemics but when we ask our elders about it, they are drawn to blank. They don’t remember and the truth is they shouldn’t. Though the numbers of pandemic is huge in our history books but the present health crisis stands out. Not because it is more severe than its predecessors but because it is accompanied by technology and for that reason I would suggest inscription it on the golden pages of history books.
If you would have to define the impact of technology to anyone in future, I would suggest rewinding your sets to the period of Covid-19.Where, to fear or not to fear, to believe or not to believe, solely depended upon the channel number of your TV, subscriptions of your YouTube and the liked groups of your Facebook.
Initially, fear was enormous. Everyone was waiting for the climax and had their fingers crossed. But to the disappointment of the audience, it turned out to be slow, as a result of which people started losing fear.
Today everyone is asking about vaccine and do ask when will this pandemic end? But what people don’t realize is that it has already ended and that too without a vaccine. Whenever there is a danger, we fear, which is normal. This fear could be wiped out either by eliminating the danger in reality or by erasing the fear from the psychology of masses. Former one is common but the latter one is what one should be concerned about as it is the one with consequences and in the case of Covid-19, the consequences are going to be devastating.
As the slow approach of the disease has already freed people of the fear, even though no clinical treatment has yet been found, people happen to find the treatment of their own, the treatment of placebos (a medicine or procedure prescribed for the psychological benefit to the patient rather than for any physiological effect). Like placebos, they are feeding their minds with fake information and statistics as a result of which, BINGO! There is no disease and if there is no disease there is no precaution and if somebody dies, either he was old enough or he was suffering already from some other disease.
Let’s take the placebo effect out of medical books and think of it in a philosophical way. Now, even if we assume that this input of fake information puts our minds in a state of calmness and our subconscious starts to build a firewall, thus protecting us from the virus. Then maybe we are right and we don’t need to take precautions.
However, by not wearing a mask we think we are risking our own life and we have every right to do so but the thing is we are not. We are not risking our lives; we are risking a life of some old guy or someone already suffering from some other disease. “So, what they were going to die anyway,” you might say. Even if they had only one single day left in there bucket and you happen to snatch it from them by being a part of community transmission then the ethics and the moral code of humanity declares you as a murderer.
Maybe you don’t fear and it is completely fine. As the saying goes “Danger is real, Fear is a choice.” But that doesn’t mean by not fearing the danger, you are not supposed to fight it. Not having fear is the character of bravery but bravery doesn’t come into existence until you fight.
Today almost all of us don’t fear this disease anymore, which is a character of bravery but we are not fighting it and that makes us murderers, oblivious murderers, unaware of our sins. We are humans and have a long history of violence; we were never driven by greed but envy and envy comes from ignorance.
The safety measures of Covid-19, we already know them; they are same as they were six months ago. But knowledge and speculations have continuously shifted; from being a threat to humans, to a plot of China, to an ignorant saying that it is just a game. I don’t know what it is, but all I know is that it is and if it is, then the best I can do, is to try not to kill someone.
