Srinagar, Feb 19: Apni Party District President Anantnag Abdul Rahim Rather held a meeting with party leaders and senior workers from across the district on Sunday.
During the meeting, discussions were held on several public issues, including the ongoing demolition drive by the administration.
According to the party statement, all the leaders holding charge of constituencies, and Zone Presidents were present in the meeting that was essentially called to assess the performance of the party cadre in the Anantnag district.
“The participants gave their feedback on their performance and also discussed public issues such as the erratic electric supply, hike in the electric bills, growing unemployment, detentions of some youth, and so on. They also expressed their displeasure about some cases of excesses related to ongoing demolition drive being executed by the Admin on the name of land retrieval,” the party statement said.
On this occasion, Rather criticized the administration for its wrong policies and methods regarding the demolition drive.
“It seems that the public interest issues are not any priority for the administration. Every now and then, the officials come up with initiatives that make lives of the common people miserable. Many poor families have been rendered shelter less on the name of the land retrieval process”
He urged the administration that instead of paying heed to less important issues, it must focus on eradicating the problems like rising unemployment, price hike in commodities, hikes in electricity bills, and so forth.
The Apni party leader said, “Prices of commodities have increased at a tremendous rate and beyond the buying capacity of a common people. Similarly, the hike in the electric bills breaks the back of poor people, and no respite is being given to people who just use a bulb or two in far-flung and Tribal habitations, and on the other hand, the supply of electricity is quite erratic.”
