AICF Chess for Everyone FIDE Rated Chess Tournament 2023 concludes at Indoor Hall Polo Ground

Srinagar, Feb 21: ‘AICF Chess for everyone FIDE Rated Chess Tournament 2023’ concluded on Tuesday at Indoor Hall Polo Ground Srinagar. The event was organised by The Kashmir Chess Club in collaboration with All J&K Chess Association under the aegis of J&K Sports Council and in the supervision of the All-India Chess Federation.
Earlier Divsional Commissioner Kashmir Division Vijay Kumar Bidori inaugurated the event in presence of cluster head JK Bank Riyaz Ahmad Wani, Sajad Khalik Bhat of JK Police and Indoor Sports Manager Mohammad Iqbal and many other guests and dignitaries.
110 players from 14 different districts of JK and players from other states took part in the first round of matches and many international rated players boys and girls from different districts of Jammu and Kashmir and outside UT were in the contingent.
Nilanta Chanda of West Bangal, Javid Ahmed Mir of Srinagar and Farooq Faisal of Srinagar scored 7½ points each, but with a better tie break Nilanta Chanda secured first place. He won 7 games and drew 1 to win the tournament with 7½ points. He drew with Shah Burhan Ahmad in the 5th round & lost in final round with Farooq Faisal and won all other games. Javid Ahmed Mir secured second place and Farooq Faisal had to be content with third place.
Comrade Parvaiz (Treasurer - The Kashmir Chess Club) is organizing chess events around Srinagar to promote chess game. He said that he wants more people to get connected to this game. While Talking to Rising Kashmir he said, “This event has been a successful one good participation of the players. I am hopeful people will come forward and will help us in every possible way to promote this game.” The event carried a total number of 45 prizes.
