9th National Pencak Silat Championship begins at Srinagar: 2400 martial art players from across India to participate in championship

Srinagar, Mar 24: The ninth National Pencak Silat Championship 2020-21 commenced Wednesday here at Indoor Sports Complex.

 The Deputy Mayor, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Parveez Qadri was the chief guest on the occasion while as Nuzhat Ara Divisional Sports Officer Kashmir presided over the function as guest of honour. 

 

The championship is being organized by Indian Pencak Silat Federation in collaboration with Pencak Silat Association of Jammu and Kashmir and J&K State Sports Council.

 

Around 2400 players and officials from 32 states and union territories are participating in the 8-Day event.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Parvez  Qadri thanked Indian Pencak Silat Federation for organizing such a mega event here. 

 

 President International Pencak Silat Federation, Kishor Prakash Yewale said Pencak Silat is the Indonesian martial art that has been liked by many players across India.

 

 “This game is also now inducted in School National Games which will provide a good platform for the players," he added.

 

 A participant, Satish from Andhra Pradesh, said, “weather in Kashmir is so beautiful. We are enjoying every moment and are very grateful to CEO Indian Pencak Silat Mohammad Iqbal for holding such an event in Kashmir,” he said.

 

 CEO, Indian Pencak Silat Federation Mohammad Iqbal, President Indian Pencak Silat Federation, Kishore Prakash Yewale, Secretary General Indian Pencak Silat Federation, Iqbal Mufti Hamid, Chief coach, Indian Pencak Silat Federation Irfan Aziz Bota and other officials from sports department were also present on the occasion.
