Bandipora, Dec 05: Braving chilling cold, a 105-year old lady in Hakbara area of Hajin-A constituency in north Kashmir's Bandipora district on Monday exercised her right to vote to create a path for advancement in her village.
Talking to reporters after casting her vote, Azi Begum, a 105-year-old woman, said that she cast her vote in favor of her preferred candidate in order to see some development in her village.
She said that she cast her vote so that her village, neglected for an extended period by the authorities, would be improved.
She relayed that she had been voting since she was 18 and she was adamant to not miss this opportunity, hoping that her village would see some progress.
The re-polling was carried out in Hajin-A and Drugmulla DDC constituencies of North Kashmir's Bandipora and Kupwara districts after the counting of ballots was halted in 2020 due to the questioned eligibility of two contenders.
The state election board had declared the election in these regions invalid, canceling the candidacy of these two contenders, citing inaccurate information regarding the origin of the contenders from the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
