Studies show that women tend to spend more time indoors when compared to men. In our settings, most of this time will be spent by women in taking care of their families and households. This leaves them with little or no time to spend on themselves or invest in activities they enjoy. This has a bearing on both the physical as well as mental health of our women.
Few simple no-cost tips:
1. Keep aside atleast 30-60 minutes each day just for yourself even if you do nothing during that time. Call it your “me-time” and let everyone know you are not available during this period. Trust me the world will not stop.
2. Wake up 15 minutes earlier than your usual waking time and spend that time soaking up some morning sunshine with the Vit-D. It’s good for your bones and good for your mood ( remember to face away from direct sunlight and wear sunscreen)
3. Nothing is going to make up for the sleep you lose in the night. Unwind by 11pm and set a night time ritual- book reading, scented candles, warm milk, skin care, really whatever tickles your fancy!
4. Divide work and assign roles to all family members regardless of gender. Remember cooking and cleaning are basic life skills not gender roles.
