Woman alleged killed by in-laws for not giving birth to child

Srinagar, June 29: A family from HMT Srinagar staged a protest demonstration here at the press enclave on Wednesday, claiming that their daughter was murdered by in-laws for not having a child.
The family members of the 32-year-old woman (name withheld) said their daughter was harassed by her in-laws on a routine basis. They said we asked them several times to divorce her.
They said she was married to Shahnawaz Ahmad Dar of Nundreshi Colony Bemina Srinagar.
According to Younis Ahmad, the deceased's brother, she has injuries on her neck and other body parts. He said when he reached the hospital, she was already declared dead by doctors on arrival.
The family has sought strict action against the accused family.
"After marriage, she was at her parent's home for almost three years, as she couldn’t give birth to the child, said her cousin Ruqaib Ali."
The family members also said she gave dowery to her in-laws and also gave her ornaments to her husband. Despite that, she was being tortured. 
A police officer while commenting on the incident said that an investigation under section 174 has been taken up. The officer said that a few suspected persons have been also arrested in this connection. The officer said that the autopsy report will clear the air.
