Srinagar, June 25: Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, said two terrorist of Lasker-e-Toiba are trapped an encounter that started late Saturday evening with security forces in Shirmal village of Shopian district.
IGP Kumar told Rising Kashmir that encounter was underway in Shirmal village and two LeT operatives are believed to be trapped. "Cordon will continue entire night," he said.
The gunfight broke out when Special Operations Group of police, Army, and Central Reserve Police Force cordoned the area on a specific input about the presence of militants in the area.
As the search parties were zeroing on the suspected location, the hiding terrorists opened fire at them who retaliated, triggering a gunfight, a police spokesman said.
“We have cordoned the area and all roads leading to the encounter site have been sealed. Currently firing is going on from both sides," he added.
