Srinagar, June 15: Two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorists, including one responsible for the killing of a bank manager from Rajasthan, were killed in an overnight gunfight in Kanji Ullar area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district, police on Wednesday said,
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Vijay Kumar said two terrorists were killed in a joint operation in Shopian. He also appreciated the efforts of Police to track down and neutralise the terrorists involved in the recent killing of Bank Manager.
Police identified the slain terrorists as Jan Mohd Lone resident of Braripora Shopian and Tufail Nazir Ganie resident of Ramnagri Shopian.
IGP Kumar that killed terrorist Jan Mohd Lone was involved in the recent killing of Bank Manager Vijay Kumar in Kulgam on June 02. He was earlier working as OGW of LeT’s district commander Adil Ramzan and he killed Bank manager on the directions of said LeT commander, he said.
“After this terror crime, he actively joined terror rank. Since then we have been tracking him. While another slain was killed terrorist Tufail Nazir had earlier escaped from two encounters at Chaki Samad and Khur-Batpora areas of Kulgam,” IGP Kumar said.
He also congratulated the joint teams for carrying out the anti-terrorist operation in a professional manner without any collateral damage.
A police spokesman said on specific information regarding presence of terrorists in village Kanji Ullar area of Shopian, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, Army (34RR) and CRPF (178Bn) in the said area.
“During the search operation, as the joint party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter,” he said.
The police spokesman said in the ensuing encounter, 02 terrorists were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter.
As per police records, both the killed terrorists were linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT and were part of groups involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on Police and security forces and civilian killings.
“Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including 01 AK-47 rifle and 01 Pistol were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other terror crimes,” he said.
Meanwhile, Police registered a case under relevant sections of law and investigation has been initiated. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared off of all the explosive materials, if any, the spokesman said.
On June 02, Vijay Kumar, a resident of Rajasthan and manager at Ellaquai Dehati Bank, was killed by militants on June 2 inside the bank in Kulgam village.
Cop injured in Bijbehara grenade attack
A policeman was injured after terrorists lobbed a grenade towards a police naka party in Padshahi Bagh area of South Kashmir's Bijbehara town on Wednesday.
A police official told Rising Kashmir that terrorists hurled a grenade upon a police party at Padshahi Bagh area of Bijbehara resulting in minor injuries to a policeman.
Following the incident, the injured cop was shifted to hospital and his condition is stated to be stable.
Meanwhile, senior Police officers immediately reached the terror crime spot.
"Area has been cordoned and search in the area is going on. Police has registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law. The investigation is in progress,” he said.
In a tweet, a police spokesman said, terrorists hurled a grenade towards Police Naka at Padshahi Bagh area of Anantnag, resulting in minor injuries to one police personnel. Case registered. Area cordoned off, search going on,” he said.
