Two LeT hybrid terrorists held in Kupwara: Police

‘4 pistols, 10 grenades recovered’

Srinagar, July 29: Police on Friday said that its personnel along with other security forces arrested two hybrid terrorists of the Lasker-e-Taiba in Kupwara and recovered arms and ammunition from their possession.
A police spokesman said Kupwara police along with Army 28 RR has arrested two hybrid terrorists and recovered four pistols, eight pistol magazines, 130 pistol rounds and ten hand grenades from them.
“Acting on credible information that two terrorist associates affiliated with terrorist outfit LeT have entered Maidanpora area of Lolab to carry out terrorist-related activities,” he said.
The spokesman said following the inputs, a joint cordon and search operation was launched in the area.
“During the course of the operation,  a vehicle load carrier bearing registration number JK 09A-2324 was signalled to stop at iron bridge Maidanpora,” he said.
The spokesman said sensing security forces' presence, the vehicle abruptly stopped short of the stop and two persons jumped out of it.
“One individual identified as Shamim Ahmad Khan son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Khan resident of Khan Mohalla Kawari Laderwan was immediately nabbed. He was carrying one bag containing ten (10) hand grenades.”
“The other accomplice jumped in the fields with a backpack and fled away,” he said.
After a hectic chase and search of the area, the second person, identified as Talib Ahmad Sheikh son of Ali Mohd Sheikh resident of Ledarwan Kawari Kupwara, was apprehended from a shop located at Badi Bhera Lolab owned by one Zakir Ahmad Mir son of Mohd Abdullah Mir resident of Wavoora Lolab.
As per police, from the search of the backpack, four pistols, eight pistol magazines and 140 live rounds of the pistol were recovered.
Meanwhile, police have registered a case under relevant sections of law.
“Investigations taken up to unearth the terror module involved in the case,” the spokesman said.
