TRF commander among three militants killed in Srinagar shootout

• 144 militants killed so far this year, 3 civilians also killed during past two years: IGP • Mehran was involved in killing of two teachers in Noorbagh Eidgah: Police

Srinagar, Nov 24: Three militants, including a top commander of The Resistance Front (TRF)-an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), were killed in a brief shootout with security forces on Wednesday in the Rambagh area of Srinagar, officials said.
Police identified the slain militants as TRF commander Mehran Yaseen Shalla, resident of Jamalatta Srinagar, Manzoor Ahmad Mir resident of Babhar Pulwama and Arafat Ahmad Sheikh resident of Nikloora Pulwama.

 “So far 144 terrorists and 2 civilians killed in cross firing in encounters killed in Kashmir this year.  Last year 207 killed and only one civilian killed in encounters. So far only 3 three civilians killed in cross firing during encounters in last two years that is lowest collateral damage in last three decades,” Kumar said.
The IGP appreciated the role of Srinagar police for conducting successful operation without any collateral damage.
 Giving details about the whole episode, the Police spokesman in its statement said, “acting swiftly on specific input regarding the movement of terrorists in Rambagh area of Srinagar, a small team from Srinagar Police signaled a suspected Santro vehicle to stop.
 “However, terrorists started firing indiscriminately on the police party from inside the car while trying to flee from the spot under the cover of firing. The fire was however effectively retaliated, leading to a gunfight,” the spokesman said.
“During the gunfight, three terrorists got killed, who were later identified as terrorist commander of proscribed terror outfit LeT (TRF) Mehran Yaseen Shalla resident of Jamalatta Srinagar, Manzoor Ahmad Mir resident of Babhar Pulwama and Arafat Ahmad Sheikh resident of Nikloora Pulwama,” the spokesperson.
The officials said, “As per police records, the slain terrorists were linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT (TRF) and the group was involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on security forces and civilian atrocities. 
“Mehran Yaseen had a long history of terror crimes and was wanted by law for his involvement in several terror crime cases including killing of School Principal Supinder Kour and teacher Deepak Chand of Government Higher Secondary School, Khankah Noorbagh Sangam on 07/10/2021,” the officials said.
The slain was also involved in the killing of Meeran Ali Sheikh at Bulbul Lanker Nawa Kadal, PSI Arshad Ahmad at Khanyar, a grenade attack at Barbar Shah Srinagar on 26/06/2021 in which one civilian namely Mudasir Ahmad Bhat resident of Hanjigund Beerwah got killed and three other civilians were critically injured.
“Prior to joining the terror ranks, several cases regarding Mehran’s involvement in stone-pelting incidents are also registered against his name,” the spokesman said.
As per Police records, “the other killed terrorist Arafat Ahmad was also involved in several terror crime cases including killing of non-local labour at Litter area of Pulwama on 16/10/2021.” 
The statement further said incriminating materials including arms and ammunition has been recovered from their possession.
The police registered a case in this regard and an investigation is in progress.
IGP Kashmir appreciated the role of Srinagar police in conducting successful operation without any collateral damage, it said.
