Three more terrorists killed in Kupwara, Pulwama encounters

114 terrorists including 32 foreigners killed so far this year: IGP Kashmir

Srinagar, June 20: The security forces on Monday killed three more terrorists in two different encounters in the Kashmir Valley.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Vijay Kumar, said that two more terrorists were killed in Kupwara encounter, taking the number of killed terrorist to four in the district in the past two days while as one terrorist was killed in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
He termed the operations as big success for the security forces.
The IGP further said that 114 terrorists including 32 foreigners have been killed by security forces this year.
Notably, seven terrorists have been killed in encounters with security forces in Pulwama and Kupwara districts in the past two days. 
Meanwhile, while detailing about twin encounters, a police spokesman identified the terrorists killed in Chandigram area of Kupwara as Bambar Khan, Al-Bakash, Aftab Bhai of Pakistan and a local, Showket Ahmad Sheikh of Sedow area of Shopian.
He said that the slain terrorists belonged to the Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit.
He said that during the interrogation of Sheikh, who was detained recently,  sensitive information related to terrorists operating in Lolab valley of Kupwara came to fore.
“One his discloser an operation was launched and he was also got trapped in initial ensuring encounter in which one foreign terrorist was neutralized. Several attempts were made to rescue him but he also got neutralized in the firing of terrorists. Later on, two more foreign terrorists were neutralized,” he said.
The police have recovered incriminating materials, arms, ammunition including 02 AK-series rifles, 06 AK magazines, 01 M-4 rifle along with 01 magazine and 03 live grenades from their possession, the spokesman said.
In Chatpora area of Pulwama, the spokesman added, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, Army (55RR) and CRPF (182Bn) in the said area.
The spokesman said, as the joint party proceeded towards the suspected spot the hiding terrorist fired indiscriminately upon the search party which was retaliated effectively by the joint forces leading to an encounter.
“In the ensuing encounter, one terrorist was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of encounter. He has been identified as Suhail Ahmad Khan son of GhMohi-ud-din Khan resident of MaidanChogalHandwara and linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT,” he said.
As per police records, the killed terrorist was involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on Police, security forces and other civilian killings, he added.
 Incriminating materials, ammunition was recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation, he said.
