Srinagar, 19 Aug: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday said there has been a significant reduction in recruitment of terrorists in Valley and their numbers have gone down as compared to the past in Kashmir.
A senior police officer told Rising Kashmir that there has been a massive reduction in terrorist recruitment in Valley and fight against ‘terrorism’ will continue until peace prevails.
He said due to successful counter-terrorism operations, there has been a reduction in number of terrorists as their leadership and maximum terror structure have been damaged.
The officer said Pakistan-sponsored agencies are behind the killings of innocent people in Kashmir and recently terrorists attacked unarmed civilians in Shopian.
He assured that the killers would be punished not only here but hereafter also.
“We will continue to work to counter anti-terrorism activities in the valley,” the officer said.
About the number terrorists and OGWs active in Kashmir, he said “Sharing the exact number is not important.  The number of terrorists has reduced to less than half of what it used to be in the past,” he said.
Last week, the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar said 130 terrorists and two guides have been killed so far in Kashmir this year.
He said 130 terrorists have been killed till August 10 in anti-terror operations. While the number of local terrorists has gone below 80, 45-50 foreigners are still active in Valley.
Out of a total of 130, 35 percent were hybrid terrorists. He said the life span of recently joined local terrorists is very low. 35% of them are killed within a month and 50 % were killed within 3 months.
