Jamsheed Nazir Gatoo 31, hailing from south Kashmir’s Shopian district is on mission for replacing the concept of traditional laundry and dry-cleaning with ‘soft wash technology by chemical dosing’.
Jamsheed did his schooling from Tyndale Biscoe School Srinagar, and completed his B. Tech from Islamic university of Science and Technology (IUST) Awantipora Kashmir.
Serving as manager in a telecom company, Jamsheed got inspired by the concept when he was participating in an exhibition event sponsored by Uclean India (Drycleaners and launderers chain in India) in Delhi last year. It was from here he decided to get its franchise in the Valley.
Initially, Jamsheed had to face lots of challenges to get work executed on the project due to COVID-19 pandemic.
“With hard work and dedication we finally made it by Oct 2020 and launched “Uclean” in the Valley,” said Jamsheed, who has also worked as an electrical engineer in National Hydro Power Corporation in the past.
Uclean is India’s largest chain of drycleaners and launderers with more than 300 stores across the country.
Jamsheed’s dedication and hard work paid off as his clientele gradually increased. Currently, his franchise has more than 200 customers in Srinagar city only.
Jamsheed, who also has an experience of working with Vindhya Telelinks Limited (MP Birla Group) as senior engineer, gives credit to adapting new technology. “We replaced traditional dry cleaning concepts with soft wash technology by chemical dosing.”
According to Jamsheed traditional dry-cleaning was based on petrochemical based material usually perc. It has been found very hazardous to health especially deciphered as a common cause for various cancers, he added.
“Perc” (perchloroethylene) has been globally banned initially in Europe. Now the ban has extended to Asia as well. By the end of 2022 there will be a blanket ban on perc based dry cleaning machines,” he says.
He added this concept has been upgraded by soft wash.
This technology is used with help of artificial Intelligence machines with wet washing and chemical dosing techniques integrated as per fabric,” he said.
He added that soft wash machines work on program based concepts.
Presently, Uclean in Kashmir delivers 10 to 15 orders daily.
Presently, the laundry provides free pick and drop along with elite packing services for both laundry and dry-cleaning services.
As per Jamsheed they would also shortly be offering various packages for home cleaning for carpet cleaning and sofa cleaning.
“Presently, we provide high class cleaning service for curtains, blinds and leather bags” he claims.
Jamsheed said Uclean has 4.9 stars rating on Google.
Jamsheed says to facilitate orders they have well versed Android app with Uclean available on play store along with customer care and store numbers.
Talking about the future plan, Jamsheed says they have to expand Uclean to other three districts in Kashmir.
“Initially we are focussing on Anantnag and Baramulla along with some tourist destinations like Pahalgam and Gulmarg,” he says.
He adds that ‘Chem dry’ is an Australian brand and is the world's most expensive chemical brand which is used across elite properties in Europe and US to wash their linen.
