Teenager killed in wild animal attack in Uri

Baramulla, Jun 13: Two days after a teenager was mauled to death by a wild animal, the body of a 12-year-old boy, who had gone missing on Sunday evening in the Trikanjan area of Boniyar, was recovered on Monday, police said.
A police official said that Shahid Ahmed Ganai, son of Abdul Jabbar Ganai, a resident of Trikanjan Boniyar left home with cattle to a nearby forest on Sunday morning but didn't return home.
Soon after the incident, the family of the teenager informed the police and a search operation was launched in the area with the help of locals till late Sunday evening. His mutilated body was later on found in a nearby forest on Monday morning.
Police said the body parts of the boy were found in the forest area.
"The search for the missing boy was launched in the nearby forests till late but we couldn't locate the missing boy. On Monday morning, body parts of the deceased were found at two different locations in the area. It seems like a wild animal attack. However investigation in this case has been initiated and a case under section 174 has been registered with the police station Boniyar, "the police official said.
Earlier on Saturday, a teenager named Amir Muneer, 15 was mauled to death by a wild animal in the Cholan Kalsi Ghati area of Uri.
The incidents have created a general sense of fear among the residents who appealed to the administration to neutralize the man-eating wild animal.
Regional Wildlife Warden Kashmir Rashid Naqash told Rising Kashmir that efforts are on to tranquilize or capture the man-eating wild animal in the area.
"Although the Kalsan and Trikanjan are miles apart, our team, accompanied by local shooters, are on a job. We have given orders to tranquilize or capture the wild animals in the area. The last resort will be to kill the wild animal," Rashid added.
He however appealed to the people living near the forest areas not to let the children venture near the forest areas during evening times.
