Baramulla, Jul 3:  A 14 year old boy drowned to death in a stream in Reban area of north Kashmir's Sopore, Sunday afternoon.
A police officer told Rising Kashmir that the teenager drowned to death while taking a bath in a Pohru Nallah in Reban village of Sopore.
He identified the deceased as Adnan Muzaffar Dar son of Muzaffar Ahmad Dar, a resident of Reban, Sopore.
The body was fished out of nallah by locals and shifted to SDH Sopore, where doctors declared him brought dead.
An official said that to escape the scorching heat, the children take to rivers and streams, leading to an increased number of deaths due to drowning.
This is the second incident of drowning in the last one week in north Kashmir.
Earlier on July 01, a boy drowned to death while two others were fished out alive in Wular Lake. They had gone to take a bath in the waters of Wullar Lake.
Watching the rising incidents, few educational institutions in Sopore have appealed to parents not to let their children bathe unattended in the nearby rivers or streams.
In a message to parents, the authorities at SRM Welkin Higher Secondary School, Sopore appealed the parents to take precautionary measures.
"As the temperatures are soaring, the children show much excitement in swimming, splashing around the streams during these hot days. To avoid any untoward incident we want you to watch the kids whenever they're around water, no matter what their swimming skills are. Even kids who know how to swim can be at risk for drowning," an official statement from SRM Welkin Sopore said.
