Sopore’s Mateen impresses English cricket team with his sensational pace

The ongoing cricket series between England and New Zealand has brought a moment of pride for cricket lovers back here in the valley as Mateen Teli, a pace bowler from Sopore town, has impressed the English cricket team as net bowler with his raw pace.
An ace cricketer of his area, Mateen hails from Arampora area of Sopore. He is in England for the last four years and is pursuing his masters at Nottingham University.
His friends remember Teli as an exceptional player in the circuit of domestic tournaments.
While talking to Rising Kashmir, Mateen's proud father Haji Abdul Ahad Teli said it was his dream to see his son play at an international platform.
Mateen got selected as a net bowler for the England test team ahead of the ongoing second test against New Zealand at Trent bridge stadium. “It is a proud moment for all of us," Haji added.
Mateen has bagged a couple of wickets in the nets and bowled top English wicket keeping batsman Jonny Bairstow and right hand batsman Zak Crawley.
"We received a call a few days back from Mateen. He was praised by England's coach and renowned cricketer Paul Collingwood," Teli's brother, Bilal Ahmad, said.
Bilal said Mateen is a passionate cricketer and has represented his school and college in various domestic events.
"After his graduation, he played several matches here in Kashmir. But he didn’t get a chance to represent J&K.
“He left for higher studies and availed a scholarship for Nottingham University and is pursuing his master's degree there," Bilal added.
Mateen plays for a local club there in England and has received applause from the coaches and team selectors.
Bilal said after bowling over the English cricket team Mateen is more enthusiastic and hopeful about the future and wants to play and display his skills at international level.
