SKUAST conducts workshop on ‘Awareness cum Capacity Building, SkillDevelopment among Scheduled Tribes of Kashmir’

Srinagar, July 29: Workshop on Awareness cum Capacity Building/Skill Development among Scheduled Tribes of Kashmir was conducted underVigyan Prasar ,DST Govt. of India Sponsored project for socio economic upliftment of Scheduled tribes was organized by Division of Floriculture and Landscape Architecture SKUAST K Shalimar.
The aim of the workshop was to sanitize ST’s of five districts viz Srinagar,Ganderbal,Kupwara, Baramulla Bandipora and Bandipora regarding the scope of bioresource management for sustainable livelihood security. The programme is collaborative programme of Vigyan Prasar(autonomous body of DST) and funded by SEED Division of DST Govt of India. The Inaugural was enlighted by the presence of Vice Chancellor SKUAST K Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai along with Director Research Prof . Sarfraz A Wani,Prof M A A Siddique Dean Students Welfare, Shabir Ahmad Wani Dean Facluty of Horticulture and other Heads of the divisions.
Besides this Dr K B Bhushan Scientist E Vigyan Prasar attended through virtual Mode from New Delhi. Vice Chancellor SKUAST K Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai shared his words of wisdom regarding bioresource management for sustainable development of tribal area and scope of progress as far as sustainable livelihood security is concerned.
Prof M A A Siddique shared his views on Kashmir Himalayan floral wealth and its importance in livelihood security. Director Research Prof. Sarfraz A Wani thrusted on institutional role in bioresource management. Welcome and vote of thanks was delivered by Dr I T Nazki and Prof Shabir A Wani.
The programme was followed by exposure visit of participants to research and propagation units of Division of FLA ,Division of Fruit science and other units with an aim for better understanding of scientific means of propagation and production. ShameemaBano International Gujar Mahasabha Vice President J&K, Mohammad Anwar International Gujar Mahasabha Kashmir incharge, Nazir Ahmad PodeInternational Gujar Mahasabha Kashmir Youth President and other retired Professors of Division were felicitated on this occasion.
Besides this rooted plants of Plectrantra were received by Chief Agriculture Officer Baramulla for creating of pollen souce park. On this occasion Programme Coordinator and Co coordinator DR N H Masoodi & Dr Qazi Altaf Hussain interacted with the ST participants and finalized road map for successful completion of project objectives.
Priority areas were delaminated including model training cum demonstration units shall be established in the selected districts. ,Ex-situ propagation shall be carried out for mass multiplication through cuttings, divisions, and seeds specie wise as per means of propagation on scientific lines using priming techniques for seeds and use of PGR’s for rooting of cuttings. establishment of demonstration units which can be explored at commercial scale, awareness and training and demonstration on landscape use and multiplication of high valued niche plants for commercialization and capacity building in propagation techniques.
