Shining Star Palpora wins Trade & Jobs Cricket Tournament

Ishfaq Malik bags man of the match award for scintillating 124 runs off 64 balls; Abid Naib adjudged man of the series
Srinagar, July 18: In the finals of the Trade & Jobs Cricket Tournament, Shining Star Palpora defeated Malik Cricket Club and won the final by 66 runs in almost a one-sided contest.
The match was played at Government Boys High School, Sonwar Bagh, Srinagar. 
The toss was won by Shining Star Palpora which decided to bat first. The first two batsmen namely Ishfaq Malik and Mohsin Ahmad made a very good partnership. Ishfaq Malik’s catch was dropped in initial overs by Umer Malik which boosted the morale of the batsmen as he smashed 124 runs from 64 balls. Ishfaq hit one 6 and 26 4s.
The bowlers could not change the fate of their team in the first 15 overs, it was in 16 over that Malik Cricket Club could get Mohsin’s wicket when he scored 32 runs in 32 balls and hence breaking the huge partnership of 176, one of the highest partnerships on the ground.
The Shining Star put a target of 216 runs for Malik Cricket Club.
In second innings, the Malik Cricket Club had a pressure of huge score and also given the fact that the pressure of finals was also there. Their batting collapsed in only 3rd over, when Mudasir Lone was caught behind. In the fourth over one more wicket was in the kitty of Shining Star of Taufeeq, who was bowled out by Basharat Kabli. Only the Captain of Malik Cricket Club looked to chase the target and scored 51 runs from 34 balls and was caught by Zubair Lone on Ajaz Bhat’s ball. The team could score only 150 runs and lost the match.
Secretary, J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul, Secretary, who was the chief guest could not make it to the ground due to some extremely unavoidable engagements. 
At the presentation ceremony trophies were distributed by respected elders of the Sonwar Bagh, namely Ghulam Nabi Bhat, Abdul Rashid, Mohammad Lateef Bhat, Manzoor Ahmad Bhat from Palpora Sonwar and from Sonwar side Haji Ghulam Qadir and Mukhtar Ahmad Malik did the honours of distributing trophies among the winners and runners-up.
On the sidelines of the final match, a race was also organised for kids in which Hafiz Manzoor of Government Boys High School, Sonwar Bagh got the first position and was awarded a trophy. 
Man of the match was given to Ishfaq Malik for securing 124 runs in 64 balls and man of the Series was bagged by Abid Nabi. 
Asgar Ahmad Malik, owner of Malik Stationers-cum-Provisional Store out of his love for cricket, gave a cash prize of Rs. 1000 each to Ishfaq Malik and Abid Nabi for being man of the match and man of the series respectively. 
Elderly people and sports lovers of the area lauded the role of Editor, Saqib Lateef for organising the tournament every year. The tournament could not be completed earlier due Covid-19 pandemic and was restarted during this month.
The Umpires of today’s match were Javaid Ahmad, Muzamil Ahmad and Asif Ahmad. The scorer for the match was Zulfikar Ahmad.
