Say no to dowry

Dowry- The five-letter word has become synonymous to marriages in Kashmir. It takes almost a lifetime for parents to arrange things that they will gift their daughter and her in-laws at the time of her marriage. Perhaps, this is one of the reasons why late marriages have become so common nowadays. One really cannot think of marrying their daughters  unless they have literally gathered everything they have in their mind. However, the fact is that under Islamic law, dowry—or dower to be more precise—is obligatory for a groom to pay to his bride. So, this mindset of making dowry an obligation on the bride's parents needs to be changed. The educated youth of the Valley can particularly play an important role in this regard, who can simply say no to dowry.
